Drawing Out The Silence
1 in 4 children grow up with a parent living with a mental illness. For many families, mental ilnesses are stil consideredl a taboo, leaving children alone with feelings they rarely get to talk about.
Psykiatrifonden (The Danish Mental Health Foundation) uses drawing therapy to help children express what words can't. So we took the drawings out of the therapy room and turned them into conversation starters and exhibited them in a place where adults are used to stop up, observe and reflect: An art museum.
Each drawing was paired with the child's story and simple questions to guide parents and other adults to feel more comfortable in conversations about mental illness and other difficult topics with other people – no matter their age.
